Our history

On August 5, 1915, 36 Stockholders met to organize the Minot Farmers Cooperative Elevator Company, which became Farmers Union Elevator of Minot in 1952. On August 1, 1997, the Farmers Union Elevator of Minot then merged with Harvest States Cooperatives. The terms of the merger provided for the formation of a brand new regional division of Harvest States Cooperatives called SunPrairie Grain, now CHS SunPrairie. Since our start-up even more history has been made regarding consolidations. Harvest States Cooperatives and Cenex, Inc. merged on June 1, 1998, to form Cenex Harvest States Cooperatives, now known as CHS Inc. headquartered in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota.

CHS SunPrairie’s core business is grain, but is the majority owner of a joint venture with Enerbase Cooperative Resources and Border Ag & Energy to provide agronomy services, known as Dakota Agronomy Partners LLC, that has a footprint that covers an area from Washburn to the Canadian border.

Our cooperative is one of many company-owned, locally-governed service centers that are part of CHS Inc., a highly-respected and financially stable Fortune 100 company committed to delivering value.
